Jeff's Bio
Jeff Baron (vocals and guitar)
was born in Augusta, Maine. His
family moved to Lubbock, Texas,
then to Denison, Texas. He is
married, has two children and is
currently living in Longview,
Texas.
Q: So, you moved some growing
up?
A: Yes. The move from Maine to
Texas was because of my
father’s job change, the move to
Denison, Texas, was after my
parents divorced.
Q: What are your early thoughts
of church?
A: As a kid it was: put on your tie,
don’t talk in the sanctuary
(seriously), dress up as a wise
man for the Christmas play – and
a large stain glass window where
Jesus was holding a lamb over
his shoulders.
Q: Any early thoughts of God?
A: When I was about four, I knew I
wanted to be God’s friend and
that the devil was his enemy. I
remember being in the bathroom
one day and stomping on the
ground saying, “I hate you devil, I
hate you devil.”
Q: When did you first start
following God?
A: First start? I guess when I was
16 I had just started reading the
Bible on my own and I found
myself questioning the
translation. My mom gave me $20
for my 17th birthday and so I
decided to go and buy a new
Bible. I just didn’t want to be
deceived.
Q: When did you first start
singing?
A: When I was young I could hit
notes higher than any of the girls
around – those were the days.
But really it all started in High
School. The choir was always
needing male voices – and I was
a male.
Q: What was your first band?
A: I was working at a youth camp
and met some guys who had
been in a band before – I just
kind of filled a gap. I remember
once the bass player had to
literally run from a crowd of
overzealous third grade girls.
Q: What was the name of the
band?
A: We really didn’t have one – so
we called ourselves, Dr. Rhythm
and His all Spazz Band.
Q: What do you like the most
about Simply Real?
A: It’s genuine. You know, no
games. I can pour out my heart in
song and know that it’s not about
me.
Q: What’s your favorite pastime?
A: My favorite is vegging out on
the couch and watching movies
with my family. A close second is
sailing my old sailboat…I mean
antique – yeah, antique…sailboat
– as long as the wind is blowing.
