Scott's Bio

Scott Gusa (vocals) was born
and raised in Palestine, Texas.
He is married, has three
children, and currently lives in
Tyler, Texas.

Q: So you never had to move
when growing up?
A: No. As a matter of fact my
parents still live in the same
house I grew up in.

Q: What are your early thoughts
of church?
A: Even though church was a big
part of our family, I always had
questions about what I saw.

Q: In what way?
A: Seeing as a kid, you know,
was it all real?

Q: When did you first start
following God?
A: First? I can always remember
having an ear open for God,
Always. From the time I was six
years old I had pastors telling me
I would probably be a minister
when I grew up.

Q: At six years old?
A: Yeah. I would weep,
determined to live my life in such
a way as to not disappoint God. I
felt God was telling me He had
something for me to do.

Q: When did you first start
singing?
A: Well, singing always came
naturally to me, but I was too
reserved to actually get up in
front of anybody. Through the
prodding of the Holy Spirit and of
a friend I started singing with a
band.

Q: What was the band’s name
A: Beloved. We were together for
several years, recording one
album and performing all over
East Texas – including Jesus Go-
Fest and a mission trip with
YWAM.

Q: What do you like the most
about Simply Real?
A: The fact that it is purely…
simply…the work of God.
Nothing else. Not our ambition,
not my hand, not Jeff’s hand – It
is God’s.

Q: Last question, what’s your
favorite pastime?
A: It’s a close decision between
golf and snow skiing, but honestly
I don’t get to do either very much.
